Herança - Christopher Paolini

Depois de três anos de espera, finalmente sai o último volume do Ciclo da Herança. Foi com alguma expectativa que comecei a leitura do livro. Talvez tenha sido ela a culpada da sensação de desilusão que se apoderou de mim, enquanto o lia; talvez os meus gostos literários tenham simplesmente mudado desde Brisingr. Penso que no final foi uma mistura destas duas razões que me fez achar que o livro não é tão bom, quanto deveria ser.

Durante esta última parte da saga somos brindados com uma série de batalhas que serão decisivas para a derrota, ou para o sucesso dos Varden. A perspectiva destas batalhas é apresentada sob o olhar de três personagens: os protagonistas de toda esta aventura, Eragon e Shapira; Roran, primo de Eragon e valente soldado; Nasuada, a chefe do povo Varden. 

Não me entendam mal, gosto de uma boa batalha e Paolini consegue com certeza criar uma, mas há nesta obra um exagero. São sucessivas descrições de batalhas, que acabam por tornar-se maçadoras. Quase que parece que o escritor não sabe que mais escrever e está a tentar ganhar tempo, enquanto tenta organizar as ideias.  

Depois há a previsibilidade de toda a história. Seria impossível ser mais previsível e se há coisa que eu detesto numa história do género é que ela não consiga surpreender-me. 

No final, ainda consegue arrancar –me um pequeno sorriso pela sensação de nostalgia e do terminar de mais uma saga que marcou a minha infância, mas no geral não me satisfez. Ansiava por certas respostas e nenhuma delas foi respondida, como por exemplo sobre a identidade da mãe de Eragon, sobre a herbanária Angela e sobre o destino da relação entre Arya e Eragon. 

Acho que nunca escrevi uma crítica tão negativa, mas depois de três anos de espera, queria mais.(3/7)

After three years of waiting, finally the last volume of the Inheritance Cycle arrives to the bookstores. It was with some anticipation that I began reading the book. Perhaps it was that anticipating felling the main cause of the disappointment that came over me while reading this book; perhaps my literary tastes have simply changed since Brisingr. I think that, in the end, it was a mixture of these two reasons that made me think that the book isn't as good as it should be.

During the latter part of the saga we are presented to a series of battles that will be decisive for the defeat, or the success of the Varden. The prospect of these battles is presented from the perspective of three characters: by the protagonists of this whole adventure, Eragon and Shapira; by Roran, Eragon's cousin and brave soldier; and by Nasuada, the chief of the Varden.

Do not get me wrong, I enjoy a good battle and Paolini can certainly create one, but in this book they overkill it. There are so many battles descriptions that eventually it becomes boring. Almost seems like the writer doesn't know what else to write and is trying to buy some time while trying to organize ideas.

Then there is the predictability of the whole story. It would be impossible to be more predictable and if there's anything I hate in a history of the genre is when it fails to amaze me.

In the end, it still manages to pull me a little smile for the sense of nostalgia and the end of yet another saga that marked my childhood, but overall it did not satisfy me. He longed for some answers and none were answered, such as the identity of the mother of Eragon and the herbalist, Angela, and the fate of the relationship between Arya and Eragon.

I guess I never wrote a review so negative, but after three years of waiting, I was expecting a little more. (3/7)
