A minha fixação pelo oriente continua. Desta vez o cenário
desta maravilhosa obra da literatura, “Terra Bendita”, é a China.
Em “Terra Bendita”, primeiro volume de uma trilogia escrita
por Pearl S.Buck, é narrada a vida de Wang Lung, desde a sua humilde posição
como jovem camponês, até à sua ascensão a homem poderoso, proprietário de
várias terras. Por entre alegrias e
muitas provações, este poder torna Wang Lung num homem arrogante e egoísta. No
entanto, ele consegue corrigir-se e ultrapassar todas as adversidades da vida
voltando-se para a única coisa que no início detinha – a terra.
Com excelentes descrições dos costumes da China rural pré-revolucionária
(início do século XX) e com uma escrita simples, mas envolvente, “Terra
Bendita” é mais do que uma simples história sobre um indivíduo; é o relato do
destino de todos os homens.

table. It had come out of the earth, this silver, out of the earth that he
ploughed and turned and spent himself upon. He took his life from the earth;
drop by drop by his sweat he wrung food from it and from the food, silver. Each
